Abstract

Citizen science, defined as public participation in scientific research projects, is becoming increasingly appreciated as a useful method for improving scientific knowledge and involving communities in scientific endeavours. Libraries may be very helpful in promoting and supporting citizen science activities because they are community-focused organisations. This study aimed to determine how well-informed and knowledgeable Southeast Asian librarians were about citizen science and its potential connection to library services. To learn more about librarians' knowledge of and understanding of citizen science and their experiences integrating it into their library services, a questionnaire will be distributed to librarians from Southeast Asia libraries. This study emphasises the potential of libraries as a venue for community-wide citizen science activities promotion and support. The findings will show that although librarians in Southeast Asia are somewhat aware of citizen science, more training and assistance might be required to fully exploit its potential in library services. The study will offer insightful information on how libraries may promote citizen science. It can guide future training and educational initiatives designed to help librarians incorporate citizen science into their library services.
