Catalytic gas-phase reactions have gained industrial applicability in the production of chemicals, fuels, and environmental remediation. However, conventional heterogeneous catalysts for gas-phase reactions contain precious metals, which have low utilization efficiency of metal atoms and are expensive, and therefore need to be improved to achieve industrial scalability. Therefore, single-atom catalysis has emerged as a new paradigm for dispersing isolated noble metals on a suitable support material. Herein, this review analyzed recent advances in single-atom catalysts (SACs) for oxidation of carbon monoxide, abatement of formaldehyde, reduction of ni-trogen oxides, and hydrogenation of carbon dioxide. Various synthesis methods of different SACs were elucidated and highlighted for the thermochemical gas-phase reactions. Furthermore, the mechanism, challenges, and prospects of the SACs for gas-phase reactions were described. This review is significant to serve as a reference for current and prospective thermochemical gas-phase reactions driven by SACs.
