The marine algal checklist of 2006 was updated in 2019 based on publications of new species, new records and taxonomic revisions. It had an increase of 17 families, 32 genera, and 75 species, including seven new species. This 2021 checklist is again updated and the present tally stands at 477 taxa in 72 families; with 33 species in 12 families of Cyanophyta; 125 species in 16 families of Chlorophyta; 96 species in 8 families of Ochrophyta; and 221 species in 36 families of Rhodophyta. © 2021 Malaysian Nature Society.
