The ability of social media in influencing the lives of internet users is undeniable. The features available on social media applications allow news users to play a role as non-professional producers. This situation exposes the flaws in terms of the information disseminated because it depends on the user’s tendencies. For example, the more users write comments in favor of a particular form of view, the higher the public perception will be built on that view. The same goes for headlines that are shared where it can be used as a measure to assess public perception that will be built as a result of the behavioral tendencies of users who share the headlines. The aim of this study is to analyze the behavior of news users on Facebook, on matters related to Pakatan Harapan (PH) as reported by the Sinar Harian within a year of its rule. User behavior is measured based on the number of comments written, the number of news sharing, the number of likes expressed as well as the number of emoji reactions shown. This study uses a qualitative approach that applies content analysis methods. The agenda-setting theory is used in the analysis of the study. The findings of this study indicate that, although professional media outlets choose to publish various news headlines, social media users are more interested in highlighting biased news headlines. Thus, this study concludes that it is not appropriate to rely solely on information spread on social media in perception building. © 2021, Penerbit Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
