Abstract

This presentation provides an overview of the history in which art history is taught at the University of Malaya. It begins with the first art history course offered in 1954 under Michael Sullivan and then proceeds to discuss where it is currently being taught in various programmes across Malaysia. Finally, I will introduce the Visual Art Department at the current University of Malaya today, a programme established by the late Redza Piyadasa in 2003. I will also reflect on the challenges and opportunities within the current programme, where I currently teach.
