Abstract

The island of Langkawi in Malaysia is a popular destination for local and international holidaymakers. In continuing the tourism development in Langkawi, the Tune Hotels Ptd. The Project Proponent has engaged Ecotone Environmental Management Ptd. Ltd. to conduct a Preliminary EIA study and provide an assessment of potential impacts of the proposed project activity is likely to have on the environment and to propose appropriate mitigation measures to minimise or nullify the significant potential impacts, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Department of Environment, Malaysia. This paper discusses briefly the Preliminary EIA carried out for the budget hotel project in Langkawi island of Kedah State in Malaysia.
