Industrial discharge continually releases numerous organic dyes, causing severe water contamination and toxification. Creating effective and durable photocatalysts is essential for breaking down dyes in water treatment processes. This investigation delves into creating and applying an S-scheme Bi4O5I2/CuO heterojunction as a highly effective photocatalyst in breaking down Rhodamine B (RhB) dye. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV-vis spectroscopy were employed to assess the produced nanoparticles' morphological, structural, and optical characteristics. The utilization of synthesised Bi4O5I2/CuO heterojunction against rhodamine B (RhB) photodegradation has resulted in enhanced efficiency as compared to bare Bi4O5I2 and CuO. The results showed that Bi4O5I2/CuO heterojunction had best catalytic activity at 5 ppm RhB, 35 mg catalyst dosage, and pH-5. The RhB elimination rate reached 99.21 % after 60 min of visible light exposure. Scavenging tests demonstrated the significant involvement of hydroxyl radicals (center dot OH) and superoxide radicals (center dot O2-) in the breakdown of Rhodamine B. Reusability experiments confirmed the exceptional stability of this catalyst across four successive cycles. Additionally, photoluminescence and electrochemical analysis revealed the improved charge charger transfer and better separation rate of carriers for Bi4O5I2/CuO heterojunction. Based on the results, Bi4O5I2/CuO heterojunction shows high photocatalytic efficiency RhB degradation, highlighting its potential applications in wastewater treatment.
