Abstract

Plastic Pyrolytic Oil (PPO) is a promising diesel substitute. This work portrays the analysis of lubricity of PPO. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to examine the saturation level of PPO and commercial diesel (CD). The physicochemical properties of PPO, polyalphaolefin 8 (PAO8) and trimethylpropane trioleate (TMPTO) were determined and, their lubricities were compared. PPO presented an outstanding lubricating property in terms of lowest coefficient fraction (COF). For further studies, five blends were prepared from PPO and CD. Their wear and lubricity characteristics were computed using high-frequency reciprocating rig (HFRR) based on ASTMD6079 standard Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to evaluate the worn surfaces of specimen plates. FTIR analysis showed that PPO is a good quality fuel as CD. PO10 showed the lowest average COF. A lower fraction of PPO decreased COF, and higher fraction of PPO caused higher wear. PPO is believed to become a replacement for commercial lubricant.
