1.The calcium fractions of normal serum at room temperature have been investigated with a newly introduced ultrafiltration cone filter and a calcium-sensitive electrode.2.Mean values obtained were 1.53 mM/L for ultrafiltrable calcium (59% of the total calcium), and 1.07 mM/L for protein-bound calcium (41% of the total calcium). Of the ultrafiltrable fraction, the ionic calcium was 1.16 mM/L (45% of the total calcium), and the complexed calcium accounted for 0.37 mM/L (14% of the total calcium).3.The results obtained in this series are discussed in relation to the reported values from other centres using different methods. © 1971.
