Abstract

In modern economic and technology development, crude oil consumption is keep increasing due to the growth of population which leads to a further enhancement in air pollution composition prompting on the importance of innovative cleaner and environmentally viable fuels. Thus the present study concentrates on the utilization of the nicotiana tabaccum as an alternative fuel rather than consumed by humans. The optimization was carried out for nicotiana tabaccum biodiesel mixing, fuel injection pressure, engine loads and fuel injection timing. The test was executed as per the response surface methodology technique to achieve the best engine parameters (BTE, EGT, and Pmax) and HC emissions. The optimum engine parameter set at injection timing of 30°bTDC, injection pressure 24 MPa, and B30 biodiesel mixing at 45% of engine load. Further, experiments were conducted at RSM predicted engine settings to validate predicted engine responses and the responses were found to be in acceptable error limits. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd
